FishBit: Keep an Eye on Your Fishtank From Anywhere in the World

Fishbit, a new app that promises to help fish tank owners create a thriving environment for their fish by monitoring and managing their aquarium’s water composition.

FishBit Acquarium monitor

FishBit is an app and a connected device that will be able to notify you about any issues with your fish tank no matter where you are in the world. The idea behind FishBit is that a simple monitor and controller will allow you to enjoy your aquarium more by providing you with actionable insights directly from your smartphone help you correct any issues in your tank.

Smartphones and apps continue to disrupt even industries we never thought would be digitised, and in the same way for salwater aquarium owners, FishBit is a godsend. The FishBit BETA provides a neat way to monitor your fish tank and protect your fish in an easy and intuitive way through a monitor that measures pH, salinity and temperature. Also included is a controller for other aquarium equipment such as lighting and pumps, as well as an app that can be accessed on your smartphone or a web browser.

Setting up FishBit is easy to do, all it takes is downloading your FishBit app and then setting up your Wi-Fi credentials before dropping the monitor into your aquarium. Users can then set up any other equipment like lighting, pumps, and heaters to a controller by setting up simple automations such as triggers and actions from the within app.

FitBit

Current Labs, the  San Francisco, CA company that is making FishBit, is only offering the device on a 30 unit BETA as a way to let real fish tank owners take part in shaping the final design and capabilities of the retail version. All initial thirty backers of the project at the appropriate level are scheduled to receive the FishBit BETA in June of 2015. The final iteration of the device is slated to also include smart reminder, a FishBit owners forum, and an expanded livestock database.
