Tesla recently revealed its plans to sell batteries for home and business users, the Tesla Powerwall.

The company’s latest project comprises of batteries that can be used in homes, offices, and even utilities to store solar generated energy. The Tesla Powerwall batteries come in two different energy ratings at 10 kWh and 7 kWh, depending on the usage required.

Tesla Powerwall batteries are priced at $3,000 for the 7 kWh model, and $3,500 for the 10 kWh model. The system can also be connected to the internet using a WiFi connection. These battery units will come with an in-built heat management system, and can be installed inside or outside the house.

Powerwall can be also used to create smart microgrids that can allow home owners to run their properties entirely on Tesla Powerwall batteries and take themselves off the main power grid.

Multiple batteries may be installed together.

Tesla Energy is also working on a bigger variant of the Tesla Powerwall system. The upgraded models will be called Powerpack, and will be an infinitely scalable system that can be deployed for businesses, industrial usage, and utility companies. Tesla Energy has been testing its Tesla Powerwall battery packs with a select number of partners for over a year now.

Powerpack batteries will come in much higher energy ratings of 100 kWh, and can be scaled from 500 kWh to 10 MWh. That can completely change the energy consumption and distribution game, bringing solar-powered clean energy to a large number of businesses. In addition, this could turn out to be the first step towards a world that does not rely on fossil fuels for energy.

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk is very excited about their new energy project. He claimed, during the Tesla Powerwall launch event, that it would take around 160 million Powerpacks to power the entire United States, and with around 2 billion of those large scale battery packs we could power the entire world.

Tesla Energy products make use of solar energy to charge their batteries. This stored solar energy in Tesla Powerwall can do wonders, helping the power grid shed its load from conventional energy sources and help us all to consume cleaner, more eco-friendly energy.
