The Boring Company: Check Out Elon Musk’s Tunneling Company’s Vision of Future Transportation

The Boring Company may sound like a humorous take on naming your potential new service. However, the moniker is in fact a real prospect currently being developed by Elon Musk. In this case, a company that will drill a network of tunnels to create a new underground transit system. The founder and CEO of electric vehicle company Tesla came up with the idea as a means of relieving the pressure on urban roads while sitting in traffic.  The new company aims to create an underground transit network which will ease traffic congestion in future cities.

The Boring Company; A Vision of Future Transit

Musk’s boring company envisions a future where vehicles can be shuttled between docking spots at speeds of up to 130 mph. This is significantly faster than any car would be able to travel in any urban environment. Furthermore, with rush-hour traffic bringing cars to a standstill on a daily basis, Musk’s idea becomes more plausible. The maverick inventor therefore recently presented his vision of the Boring Company’s goals for future transportation. This involves an underground network of transit tunnels with rails for cars to zoom along.

To access the tunnels to be created by the Boring Company, car owners will simply have to dock their vehicle in special parking spots. Consequently, the privileged few will be able to escape the stress and boredom of sitting in a traffic jam. After pulling in, the car is then lowered underground and integrated into the network of fast-moving packets as in the pictures below:

Vehicles then travel on electric skates that run on rails to achieve maximum speeds and the system will be controlled entirely by computer systems for efficiency.  As the images below demonstrate, the potential of the project is huge. There is no limit to the amount of tunnels that the Boring Company could create to support the future network. And the computerised system would provide more efficiency than any transit systems currently available.

Presumably drivers will be able to choose the point at which they join the road above ground. Unfortunately, Musk claims to spend only 3% of his on energies on the Boring Company at the moment. This means the the project becoming a reality may still be a long way off.
