Nio EP9: Next EV Debuts World’s Fastest Electric Supercar

The Chinese electric carmaker and Formula E team NextEV has taken off the wraps off their latest model, the Nio EP9. The NextEV Nio EP9 is an all electric supercar that can go from 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds thanks to a power unit that reaches well over 1,341bhp. The supercar’s speed means it is now officially the world’s fastest electric car.

NextEV chose to unveil the Nio EP9 in dramatic fashion by announcing that the car had achieved the fastest lap times by an EV around the legendary Nürburgring test track in Germany. NextEV Nio EP9’s time was 07:05.120.

NextEV’s EP9 has also been busy smashing other Electric vehicle records around the world, including one at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France. The supercar shaved up to 50 seconds off the previously highest recorded lap time at the french circuit.

Given that the NextEV Nio EP9 has now claimed the fastest speed records of any electric vehicle that pits the Chinese company against the world’s best known electric vehicle maker; Tesla.

And so the team at Roborace would love to see them settle things in a head to head race. Pitting the NextEV Nio EP9 head-to-head with the P100D. Consequently, while that may never happen, it is still great to see such massive achievements being achieved by electric powered vehicles.

As part of its commitment to electric vehicles, NextEV also has a Formula E team that competes in the world’s only EV championship. The NextEV FE team has has competed in the FIA Formula E Championship since it was established in 2014 and secured the inaugural drivers’ championship  with Nelson Piquet Jr in July of 2015.

An EV Capable of Unprecedented Speeds

For the technically minded, the NextEV Nio EP9 specs make for eyebrow-raising reading. Consider for example as mentioned above that the EP9 can go from 0-60 in 2.7 seconds for starters. Add to that a power unit that produces up to 1,341bhp backing you up on every journey, and the ability to fully charge the vehicle in 45 minutes and you’re onto a winner.

NextEV also claims that its electric Supercar can cover a range of over 260 miles between charges. The new vehicle boasts one megawatt of power, which translates into the 1,341bhp  that EP9’s engine manages to pump out. That range of power is currently only matched by the Koenigsegg’s One:1 amongst electrical vehicles.

The sleek supercar features 24,000N of downforce, twice the amount produced by a Formula 1 car and 3.3 Gs of force that will definitely keep you pinned to your seat as you hurtle at breakneck speeds.

The NextEV Nio EP9 is definitely a fast car, and it looks good too. Unfortunately not many of us can be able to afford this amazing piece of automotive technology, but we shall live in hope!
